For PvE, I don't know seeing how I don't have a PvE Ele. I would think Earth or Fire? PvP I think Water and Air are deadly.

As the discriptions say:
Fire: Huge area of effect damage, damages a lot of persons at the same time Air: Has armor penetration, a lot of damage on 1 target ( prefered in PvP ) Water: Decent damage, lots of slowing down targets Earth: Nice damage, supporting allies |

Fire can not be deny to be the hardest hitting element for PvE.
Chain lightning twin echo can come close to meteor shower IF there are only 3 targets and you can do something about that exhaustion of yours. AoE is practically everything for ele in PvE, simply that monsters come in number. (and necro does it better) If they make a mission/quest area with one single really powerful monster at a time, air might be a tiny bit more prefered, but I bet everyone would jump for earth for the obsidian flame. |

i love air, because thanks to the AoE nerf a while back its pretty hard to get a mob together (except somewhere specialist like SF, in which case i'd use fire).

Fire in PVE all the way. Ive used all 4 types of magic, and while lightning has AP, it just doesnt cut it on groups. Mind shock is great with Glyph of power, huge damage, but on one guy. The Aoe nerf doesnt effect Rodgorts, or Bonds (not Barry), and you can string them together with Mind Burn or Immolate for 9 seconds or more of burning plus massive damage. If you leave out Mind Burn, and use Elemental Attunement, you can cast all day long. Water, well, unless you are in Hells, and dont have winter, its useless. Earth is fine for wards, with water ward too, but the spells again dont cut it. If you truely want to kill enemies in PVE with little effort, fire is the only way to go.

All four kinds have their uses in PvP. Its mostly fire for PvE.

Fire has great damage potential, but it can easily be avoided. Its frustrating for a warrior when the fire ele casts aoe spell and all the enemies go running in seperate directions. Personally i would take earth, as you can take a beating, back allies up with wards, and stil do major damage with earthquake+aftershick combo, and obsidian flame if need be.

I used fire for awhile, but have now concentrated on air. Id use fire in SF, but foe everyday pve, air is the best for me. But, elle attunement is a must for air, quite energy draining.

I hate when I use my warrior, got the aggro, all enemies on me holding my own, and then WHAM, a damn firestorm or searing heat. Thats why I dont use those spells, so tanks can hold their aggro, while I roast them with Rodgorts/Bonds.

Generally, Fire is the best element, but you want to remain flexible (or struggle to gain flexibility). Just FYI, elementalists take a backseat to necros in damage after they get Spiteful Spirit as far as AoE is concerned...and your role (if any) will have dramatically changed on a team. I recommend looking at recent posts regarding ele's.
Good luck |

I see your point regarding earth magic, but wards are pretty much less desirable in PvE (and we are talking about that, correct me if I'm wrong) than Shower + Bonds + fireball + meteor....(drop a random immolate for good measure). And the spells you mentioned are PBAoE ... rather risky for the goods you reap, IMO. |

Simply because so many of the players don't know what a "Ward" is. I had to tell them to stand in the "Circle thingy I'm making now" to avoid attacks. And even then they ran all over the place. |

Your prob gonna like Earth E5... Obsidian Flame is a good spammable skill... But has a lot of exhaustion. Plus the wards are nice for PvP... Aftershock is also a nice support attack... typically ObF Spike groups are getting popular in arenas and in PvE... But remeber 3 are spiking and another is either healing or a Necro Blood to give energy... I actually prefer the SS ObF Combo... But everyone has their own tastes...

Fire is the king of PvE. And you can use the new fleeing AI to your advantage. Lava Font is my new best friend, because it makes things that are beating on me run away. It is the only damage-over-time spell that I use. My other spells are just nuke, nuke, nuke...and they make things fall down very quickly.
